Configuring Single Sign-On for Fail Over

This topic describes the process of configuring the Single Sign-On feature for fail over.

Sometimes, it is necessary for the Process Platform Single Sign-on (SSO) feature to always be available and any failure of the SSO service could be very expensive. As an Administrator you must provide a mechanism to tackle such situations. Fail over is a mechanism where we provide a stand-by for the existing service and in case of failure of one, the other takes over. This switch takes place without any human interaction and this mechanism ensures continuous availability of the service.

Failover mechanism for SSO is achieved by creating two or more SSO service containers within the existing SSO Service Group. While creating the service containers, we specify the Simple Failover option.

After creating the service containers, we give a preference for each service container. In case of failure of the main service container, the remaining service containers will take over in the order of preference. For this topic we are creating only one service container.

  1. Add a new Single Sign-On service container to the Single Sign-On service group and name it Single Sign-On2. Also ensure that the Startup Type for this service container is Automatic. For information on creating a service container, refer Creating a Service Container.
Note: While creating the service container, type the preference for the new service container in the Preference field. A new SSO service container is created and you will be back to the System Resource Manager window.
  2. Double-click Single Sign-On service group. The list of Single Sign-On service containers are displayed on the right-side area and the ServiceGroup Properties - Single Sign-On are displayed on the lower right-side area.
  3. In ServiceGroup Properties - Single Sign-On, select Simple Failover from the Routing Algorithm drop down box.
  4. Click to save.
  5. Repeat these steps for each SSO service container.

Single Sign-On is now configured for a failover.

After you complete this task:
Enable SSO to complete this set-up. For information on enabling SSO, refer Enabling SSO.
